Operationalization
The respondents were presented with a list of 25 alternative technologies (gardens, windmills, greenhouses etc) and asked, whether they employed the particular practises.
They were then requested to note the effectiveness of the technologies they employed on a four point Likert-type scale from "not at all effective" to "very effective" in terms of 'providing your family with independence or self-reliance'
