- Remarks
- Happiness is assessed for four migration-streams: a) North-to-North migration b) South-to-North migration c) North-to-South migration d) South-to-South migration - North includes Northern America, Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand (a total of 56 countries). - South is composed of Africa, the Americas (without the United States and Canada), the Caribbean, Asia (except Japan), and Oceania (except Australia and New Zealand). - Using this definition, the ‘North’ does not include the OECD countries Chile, Israel, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, and Turkey, or high-income non-OECD countries such as Bahrain; Hong Kong, China; Puerto Rico; or the United Arab Emirates. Instead, several countries in Eastern Europe (such as Belarus, the Republic of Moldova, the Russian Federation and Ukraine) are considered part of the ‘North’.
