- Porters Need Satisfaction Questionnaire was expanded by an item on 'physical safety'. The questionnaire provided 16 sets of items reflecting five of Maslow's human needs (security, safety, social, autonomy, esteem and self-actualization). Each of the items was scored on three dimensions: 1.How much of the characteristic is there now connected with your job?
2.How much of the characteristic do you think should be connected with your job?
3.How important is this job-characteristic for you?
For the present study, five need deficiency scores were calculated by substracting the individual's response to the second part from the response to the first part. The individual score for each need deficiency was then calculated by averaging the responses across those items compromising each need scale (Item responses were based on a 7-point rating scale).
