 Non-probability purposive samples selected at the beginning of the longitudinal study in 1969. 1. highschool seniors (facing college, job, marriage) chunk sample: class of senior high school 2. newly weds (facing parenthood) snowball sample: recruted by respondents and marriage lists 3. middle aged parents ( facing empty nest) chunk sample: parents of high school students 4. elderly planning to retire snowball sample: recruted by respondents and organisations In the present study only includes group 2 and 3 (both middle aged).
