 Ventilator assisted Individuals with Tetraplegie (VAITs) were recruited by sending the questionaire with monthly billing statements to all the ventilator users with equipment from one ventilator manufacturer. Autonomously Breathing Individuals With Tetraplegie(ABITs) were identified by a review of medical records in a rehabilitation hospital. Control group was comprised of 273 health care proffessionals with a mean age of 33 years(range 21to 59 years) and experience in treating VAITs.
